How Long Does It Take To Build A Website reference image

The way your website looks and functions has a huge impact on user experience and how your brand is perceived. If you want to launch a new website or upgrade your current one, you probably want it ready as fast as possible. One of the questions that you’ll probably be asking is; “How long is this going to take?”

With Razor Web Design, if everything was given to us on a plate and all ready to go, we could have a website done in just a couple of weeks. But, in most cases, most of our clients are busy running their business day to day so generally, when we're setting up a website that's 4 to 5 pages, we work on around 4-5 weeks to set it up. If you want to sell online, usually we push that to around 5-6 weeks.

The very first thing you should do is share your plan and needs with us. You won’t be doing the actual web development, however, you still need to know exactly what you want your website to look like and what its elements should be. Without that information, we will spend a lot of time trying to figure out what you need, which is not a productive use of your time.

So, if you started planning today what you would like your website to be and come to us in a couple of weeks from now, you should expect to have a website going in 2 months from now. That's a good timeframe to work with to get your website built faster.

What I generally suggest is that you go to Google and find your competitors - see what you like and what you don’t like. Figure it out and write it down so that when you come and talk to us, we will know what you are sort of looking for. You should also consider what sort of business you're in. Watch some of our videos on youtube and listen to our podcasts. Plan ahead of time what pages you want to have on your website. If you're not sure, we can help you with that by answering some of these simple questions:

  • Do you have photos?
  • Do you have reviews?
  • Do you have testimonials or case studies about your business?
  • Do you have good product photos?
  • Do you have an email address and PO box?

All of those details are critical in building your website no matter how small they are. We've got to make sure that everything's in there. If you have things like Facebook running, you might find that your Facebook page has a lot of information you've added to it over the years that you could use to help build your new website.

Overall, you should do a bit of planning before you go and find a web designer. If you're really not sure and you're not comfortable with doing that, come and speak to us then give yourself a couple of weeks to digest everything. We can figure out what you want from there and then. Generally 4 to 6 weeks to build an information website through to an e-commerce shopping website. If you want something a little more unique, like a few extra features in there, it might take a couple of weeks over and above that but nonetheless, we do our best to get you up and running as soon as possible.
